Ferdinand Del Negro nació el 24 de Noviembre de 1896 en New York City. De padres italianos, su padre Luca Negro (1873-1940) fue tuba en la Sinfónica de New York desde 1916 hasta su fusión con la Filarmónica. Llamado 'del" por sus amigos, fue contrafagotista durante 40 años con la Orquesta de Filadelfia (desde 1922 hasta 1962).

Sirvió en el yate presidencial "Maryflower" durante la II guerra mundial. También sustituyó durante una temporada a Sol Schoenbach (solista de Filadelfia).

Despues de retirarse en 1962 continuó enseñando fagot en la Settlement Music School de Filadelfia.

Ferdinand Del Negro nos dejó en Mayo de 1986 en Camden, New Jersey, donde había vivido durante más de 60 años.
